"your migraines occur infrequently. when you do have a migraine, you are able to control it well, with medication." the issue was first raised monday by the conservative daily caller website, which quoted anonymous sources saying bachmann frequently suffers from incapacitating headaches. today, she was still facing questions about the report. >> well, we released a statement on this issue, and the focus that i've had, again, is on the fact that as commander in chief, i'm going to make sure that we get our fiscal house in order. >> reporter: bachmann acknowledges occasional migraines. her campaign points out her packed schedule hasn't be

appearing stronger heading into the 2012 race than he was just a few weeks ago. we want to bring in jon karl to help weigh in on these numbers. jon, we were talking earlier on the surface it seems like a few points shift here. but given the backdrop of this economy and unemployment this is fairly dramatic. >> reporter: is pretty dramatic. and the factor seems to be the debt ceiling standoff. take a look at the numbers against mitt romney, the president has opened up a lead, a pretty significant lead you see there of 51% to 44%. the lead is even more dramatic against other other candidates. look where he was a month ago, david. mitt romney was tied with president obama. the big factor here, in fact, the only factor that has really changed is that independent voters have moved away from the republicans and towards the president. >> so, independent voters watching the debt showdown and weighing in. >> reporter:s that's exactly right. and don't like the way the republicans have been handling it. >> speaking of the republicans, you take a look at how they're stacking up with the race. and a famil

was former utah governor jon huntsman, the most moderate of the candidates vying for the anti-romney vote. huntsman has already ruled out competing in iowa and understands new hampshire is a must-win state. >> it is absolutely central to victory. this is a state you must win. >> reporter: in iowa, which votes first in a presidential contest, candidates were fighting for the social conservative vote. there were long shots newt gingrich and rick santorum. as well as tea party sensation michele bachmann. a recent poll has the minnesota congresswoman in a statistical dead heat with romney while gingrich and santorum barely made a dent in the single digits. tim pawlenty also polled poorly there. he raised a disappointing $4.2 million this quarter and has had no public event over the holiday weekend. but those in the bottom half of the poll can take comfort in the fact that the early polls don't tell us that much. this time four years ago mike huckabee was way down at 4% right where rick santorum is today. huckabee ended up winning iowa. >> jan crawford in washington this morning, thanks. >>> j
